Bruen's Cabin on the Lake

14967 N. Cathead Bay Drive, Northport, MI  49670

2100 Square feet log home.  Four bedrooms, 3 full baths, sleeping room for 10

No smoking, no pets, children welcome.

Four Bedrooms:
All of the bedrooms are nicely furnished and have plenty of closet and drawer space. The master bedroom (225 sq. ft.) on the first floor has 1 queen bed. The other three bedrooms are upstairs. The Moose Room (140 sq. ft.) has 2 twin beds. The Tommy room (110 sq. ft.) has 1 queen bed. The Bussey Room (260 sq. ft.) has 4 twin beds plus the closet – an exceptionally large closet. We have always kept padded mats on the floor in the closet. It is quite common for young folks to take their pillows, blankets or sleeping bags and “camp out” in the closet. It’s a great place to sleep.

Three Full Bathrooms:
A full bath with stall shower is attached to the master bedroom  on the first floor.
A full bath with tub and shower is attached to the utility room on the first floor, and another full bath also with tub and shower is located on the second floor.

Fully Equipped Kitchen:
Electric stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, Oster coffee maker, dishware and glassware, pots, pans and other cooking utensils.

Bed linens and bath towels provided. A washer & electric clothes dryer are located in the utility room. In the play room we have a TV with DVD player (Cable and Satellite TV not available) and table and chairs for card and board game activities. A gas forced air heating system is available if the weather gets a little nippy – usually not needed until late September.

There is a land line phone with voice mail service. Cell service and Internet are not available. We have always considered this an asset – to disconnect from the outside world adds to the experience of "getting away from it all."  When needed, however, there is a strong cell signal a half-mile up the road at the black top, and a Wi-Fi hot-spot is available at the library in Northport.

Outdoor Features:
There is a Gas grill on the back deck immediately outside the kitchen door. It is connected to the house propane supply – no gas bottles needed. A covered porch (with two comfortable rocking chairs) on the front of the house faces Lake Michigan. A fire pit is located on the beach.

Activities and Things to Do:
There are many family-friendly restaurants within a 30 minute drive of the cabin. A visit to Fish Town, in Leland is also only 30 minutes away. Charter fishing is available in Leland. Shopping in Suttons Bay or tempting Lady Luck at Leelanau Sands Casino in Peshawbestown.

Our property is surrounded by State land and Conservancy property, both of which provide beautiful hiking trails, sand dune climbing, and one of Lake Michigan’s most beautiful beaches – all within a mile or less from the cabin.

If you would like to venture further afield the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore is less than an hour’s drive. Traverse City, with all its eateries and shopping is also less than an hour’s drive.

Bruen's Cabin on the Lake faces west on Lake Michigan and offers incredible sunsets, views of South Fox Island and Great Lake freighters.  Due to low water tables however, the beach is rocky and swimming shoes would be helpful if you choose to swim on our beach.  You will also have the option to use the beach 1 mile down our private road.
The beach at the end of the road is on state land and is among the most beautiful beaches in Northern Michigan.  Since the only way for most people to access the beach at the end of the road is to hike the state trails, or by boat, it is in effect a private beach.
By simply placing a "Cathead Bay Association" tag on your dashboard, you will have the luxury of parking at the end of the road and taking the short walk through low dunes to the best swimming beach in Northern Michigan.
